WILLAMETTE PARK ROTARY SHELTER & Field Trips
Jan 8-Mar 18 | Ages 7-12
These weekly semester based programs are a nature based, experiential approach to education. Once a month we provide a field trip that gives students a chance to other parts of the region and practice skills in a new context.
Utilizing Coyle Outside's inquiry based Outdoor School Curriculum, participants will learn about science through natural exploration and survival skills lessons. Each semester of Wilderschool has a planned curricular progression that builds on itself over the semester and evolves from season to season for students participating Fall/Winter/Spring. Wilderschool 1 is focused on skills development (how to make a fire) and Wilderschool 2 is designed to explore application of skills (how to use fire).
Study geography through learning navigation, native fauna through tracking, physics and engineering through survival traps, aquatic ecology through fishing, introduction to chemistry through fire building, plant anatomy through knife-craft, meteorology and habitat through shelter building etc..
Students will have time to explore and play, build relationships, learn to solve problems, communicate, lead, and follow more effectively. Register for one or more days weekly.
