2025 Boys Willderness Skills Expedition 2
TBD
Jun30-Jul4 / Aug4-Aug8 | Ages 11-15

This 5 day, 4 night backpacking expedition will challenge participants to travel off trail, through water and scrambling over boulders and bluffs. No prior backpacking experience is required! This will be a unique challenge with opportunities for having the best time of your life and making friends in the process!
Meant for boys seeking a challenge and for families who want their sons to build confidence, connection and explore nightly 'Council' conversations about responsibility, goal setting, leadership and relationships.
This is a high adventure trip that goes beyond traditional backpacking. Participants will learn how to manage and waterproof their gear and packs, how to cook on fire, how to start fire and control it safely and various navigation techniques. We will do short lessons on knife use, shelter set up and first aid. This trip will be partly student lead and participants will take turns leading hikes, organizing camp and leading key camp activities. Group gear such as repair, cooking, first aid is provided. Participants and staff shop for food as a group on the way to the trailhead. Destination is fire season dependent with consideration for snow levels and mosquito conditions. Possible destinations include the Kalmiopsis Wilderness, Sky Lakes Wilderness and Ochoco Mountains. Location will be chosen and provided by June 30 or before. Trip will have up to 10 participants and no less than two adult guides.

Parent/Child Backpacking Intro
TBD
Jul25-Jul27 | Ages 4+

Parent/Child trip to provide a positive introduction and experience for families and young children to backpacking and back country camping! Ideal child ages 4-8.
Carpool or caravan (your choice) to a trailhead within 2 hrs of Corvallis. Dan Coyle (and daughter) will lead us on a hike to a beautiful site with lots of opportunities to relax, play, read and cook. Trip difficulty matched to group makeup.
This trip will be focused on creating a positive first experience (or first positive experience!) for young children to develop a lifelong connection and excitement for the outdoors and overnight camping. Children may or may not bring/carry packs as needed and appropriate for age and capability. Anticipating young participants excited to make friends and play in the beauty of the backcountry we will plan on making time and space for lots of kid play. We will hike in and have plenty of time to set up camp, cook and have some free time on day one. Day two we will explore the area further with a day hike and nature interpretation/discovery walk combined with a picnic. Day three we will have some time for final fun play and exploration before packing up and hiking out.
Friday-Sunday 10:00am-5:00pm
